The team is split up into two groups
-
Forwards & Backs
-
There are different positions within both groups, all requiring a different skill the player must succed at
-
-
-
Object of the game is to move the ball down the field and score a Try (worth 5 points) & make the Conversion (worth 2 points)
-
but the ball can only be passed backwards
-
The Two Groups
-
The Forwards - usually the larger, stronger players on the team (numbered 1 - 8) their main job is to win possession of the ball
-
they bind together into scrums, line up for line-outs, and commit themselves to most rucks and mauls.
-
Front Five - a common name for the front (props and hooker) and second row (locks) forwards.
-
-
-
The Backs - often smaller, faster, and more agile and typically make use of the ball possessions (numbered 9 - 15)
-
they are skillful at passing and kicking, while also needing to be good defenders, and have the ability to catch a kicked ball.

OUR TEAM
Welcome to Women's Rugby at ASU! Our team is dedicated to providing an open and welcoming environment for any woman who is interested in learning the rules of the game and the different positions in rugby. We want to provide all of our members with the same opportunity to learn and play the sport, regardless of experience level.
We are proud to be a part of the D1 Pacific Desert Rugby Conference, where we compete against other collegiate teams in the region. We strive to not only win, but also to build a community of strong and empowered women who love the game of rugby.
